Import a Classic Car to Australia
Found a car overseas, or want Tony to find one? Tony brings classic and collectable cars into Australia from the UK, Europe and the United States, and looks after the whole process, from the first inspection to the day the car is registered here.
How it works
- 1Brief and budgetTell Tony what you’re after, or send him the listing. He’ll give you a realistic all-in budget, including shipping and import costs.
- 2InspectionBefore any money changes hands, the car is checked in person by Tony’s contacts overseas or an independent inspector, with photos and video.
- 3PurchaseTony negotiates with the seller and arranges a secure payment.
- 4Import approvalAn import approval from the Australian Government is needed before the car is shipped. Tony prepares the application.
- 5ShippingThe car travels by container or roll-on roll-off ship, insured all the way.
- 6Customs and biosecurityOn arrival the car is cleaned and inspected, and customs duty, GST and luxury car tax are paid where they apply.
- 7Registration and handoverThe car is inspected and registered in your state, then delivered to you or handed over in Sydney.
Why import with Tony
Tony doesn’t just scroll the listings. He works the auctions in the UK, Europe and the US, and he has friends overseas who tip him off when good cars are about to come up for sale, often before they reach a dealer or broker. That means more choice, a better buying price and cars most buyers never get to see.
Good to know
- Cars made before 1989 can generally be imported under the older vehicle pathway. Newer cars must be eligible under the Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles scheme.
- Right-hand-drive cars are the simplest to register. Older left-hand-drive cars can usually be registered too, but the rules vary by state.
- Most imports take a few months from purchase to registration, depending on where the car is and shipping schedules.
- The final cost depends on the car, so Tony gives you an all-in estimate before you commit.
Cars in the UK right now
These cars are currently in the UK. If one of them is the car for you, Tony can take care of the import to Australia from start to finish.
